Play YouTube Videos on Slideshows

How to play YouTube videos on a slideshow using custom start times, autoplay etc.

The first step is to find the embedded URL (link) for the Youtube video. Please note that this is not the regular URL that you see in your browser window.

Finding the embedded URL

The embedded URL can be found when viewing the YouTube video by clicking on the "Share"-button right below the title of the video.

A pop-up message will appear where you need to click on "Embed" in order to view the embedded URL.

If you want to start the video at a certain time, you can set the time at the bottom of the popup message by clicking the "Start at" checkbox before you click "Embed" and inserting the start time.

When you click "Embed" you will see the complete embedded URL that looks similar to this:

<iframe
width="560" height="315"
src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/fUHQgdej_-I" frameborder="0"
allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope;
picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen>
</iframe>

The URL highlighted in bold is the embedded URL Plecto needs to display the video on the slideshow.

To play the video automatically you need to add "?autoplay=1" to the end of the URL.

Your URL should look something like this after you have followed the instructions above:

https://www.youtube.com/embed/fUHQgdej_-I?autoplay=1

Inserting the video on a slideshow

Copy the embedded URL like the example above and follow this guide:

  • Go to your slideshow's settings by clicking on the name of it when viewing all of your slideshows.
  • Click "Add URL slide" at the bottom of the screen.
  • Paste the embedded URL in the box that has just appeared where it says "Url".
  • Adjust how many seconds the video should be viewed right next to the URL.
  • Finish with "Save".

Your video will now be played on your slideshow for the amount of seconds you've chosen.

Below is an example of a correct setup where the video will be shown for two minutes (120 seconds).
